Participants: 7,500
Distance: 174km
Ascent: 5200m
This annual cycling event is probably one of the most testing and fulfilling days riding in the sportive calendar.
Starting in Le Bourg d’Oisans (720m) the route then heads towards Allemond on a flat section to warm up the legs before ascending over Col du Glandon (1924m) where the summit offers great views of Mont Blanc on a clear day before descending down in to the Maurienne valley towards Saint Michel de Maurienne (711m). From here the route then ascends over Col de Telegraph (1570m) then a slight descent to Valloire (1409m) then ramping up for the climb over the mighty Col du Galibier (2645m) giving this section a total of 2000m climbing over 35km.
The long fast descent from Galibier passes Col du Lauteret (1995m) then through a number of road tunnels continuing past La Grave (1525m), Barrage du Chambon (1040m) and follows the Romanche river along the D1091 back to Le Bourg d’Oisans. The total descent of 48km offers some recovery time to tired legs before the gruelling 1100m ascent to the finish at the top of the iconic 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez (1804m).
Alp Venture offer private transfers from airports to Le Bourg d’Oisans, Alpe d'Huez and the surrounding areas
