Les Deux Alpes (2 Alpes) from Grenoble airport is the shortest transfer time of around one hour 45 minutes. Lyon airport to 2 Alpes takes around two hours travel time.
In Les deux alpes it is possible to Ski and snowboard on piste here for much of the year as the resort opens the glacier over the summer from mid June to the end of August, again at the end of October for a few weeks (snow dependant) and then the whole ski resort opens as the winter season starts from the beginning of December until late April.
The 2 Alpes glacier above the resort has an altitude of 3,600m which means that there is generally a good snow covering even in the worst winters for snow cover. There is also plenty of off-piste choice especially over the other side of the glacier skiing down to La Grave with its unmarked pistes if that is more to your taste.
Within the resort there are many other things to do if you fancy some time away from the slopes like ice skating, swimming, para gliding, cinema or using the sports centre.
The medieval village of Venosc is well worth a visit which is just a short cable car journey below the resort, but is not accessible by piste. Within a short drive from the resort you can also visit some of the other ski resorts in the vicinity like La Grave, Alpe d'Huez, Serre Chevalier and Mont Genevre.
Les 2 Alpes has some great downhill mountain bike routes available and every year holds the Montain of hell downhill event.
